Escape!

Hello everyone,

Again, we woke this morning with cold, wintry weather. All I'll say about that is that I'm glad I got that college degree and have a job that is inside. Some of you may or may not know that in a previous iteration, I was an HVAC guy. I hated days like this because I was never in a place that was warm. On the plus side, customers were always happy to see me arrive.

Now, I have a chair that matches my trunk and a trunk that matches my chair and while my doctors say that sitting all day isn't doing me any good, I'm happy to be indoors.

Where I'd rather be is on a warm, sandy beach somewhere drinking a pina colada, maybe getting caught in the rain with a lover who is not into yoga and has half a brain. I kid, of course, mostly because that song really confuses me. It's about a guy who is in a relationship but he is looking through the personal ads for a new lover. (For you kids that's an old timey way of meeting people in order to date, sort of like Tinder.)

Not only does he contemplate cheating on his girlfriend/wife, he goes through with it, answering an ad. In his response, he tells her to meet him at some bar where they will plan their escape. When he gets there, he finds that the person waiting for him is his "own lovely lady." They laugh about this and their affair turns a corner to something more loving. Well, maybe. The song doesn't really go into how both people in this relationship were cheating. In fact, they seem to laugh off their infidelity as if it is inconsequential.

In my experience, that is never the case. So, in essence, this is just a sad, sad song about two shallow people who don't even consider talking to each other about the problems with their relationship. In a way, we should be happy they have found each other and haven't imposed their toxic personalities on anyone else.

Regardless, I'd still like to plan an escape and maybe I'll just have a margarita instead.

Stay warm my friends.

R

  1. I'm over the cold but replace the marg with a whiskey or wine and I'm in! You've inspired me to write more, so thanks!
